Collection: Suminagashi Notebooks

Paper marbling, also known as Suminagashi, is an ancient Japanese art that takes minutes to learn and decades to master. Drops of ink are set on the surface of water, and made to swirl beautifully with slight wisps of air or strands of hair. Paper is then laid on the surface, which absorbs the unique pattern created. Making and using these marbled papers is an old book binding tradition.
As a nod to the tradition, we curated three marbled paper prints from books published in the 18th and 19th century. Aligned with our ideas of bringing the old into the new, these are perfect for people who admire vintage.
